Bescom receives ISO certification for information security management

Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited has received ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for its Information Security Management System. The certificate was formally handed over to Karnataka Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

The certification covers Bescom’s information-security framework and its measures for protecting critical information and digital systems. George said the certification was an important step towards strengthening Bescom’s information security and cyber resilience. He linked the development to the power sector’s increasing reliance on digital systems and technology.

“As the power sector increasingly relies on digital systems and technology, protecting critical information and ensuring uninterrupted operations has become essential,” George said, according to the report. He said the certification demonstrated Bescom’s commitment to globally recognised information-security practices and to improving the security of its digital infrastructure. The minister said the department had addressed major gaps and audit observations through the timely implementation and verification of corrective actions.

Those steps enabled the successful closure of the certification audit. ISO/IEC 27001:2022 is identified in the report as the standard under which Bescom’s Information Security Management System was certified. The development comes as the utility seeks to strengthen systems that support its operations and protect information.
