Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader T. Harish Rao has accused Telangana’s Congress government of failing to deliver promised support for minorities. He claimed the government had not provided the pledged ₹4,000 crore allocation and said spending on overseas scholarships was far below the level recorded under the previous BRS administration.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader T. Harish Rao has accused Telangana’s Congress government of failing to fulfil promises made to minority communities. Speaking at a programme organised by the Telangana Turaka Kasha Welfare Association in Gajwel on Sunday, the former minister said the government had not delivered on its Minorities Declaration.

He also criticised its record on support for farmers and poorer residents. Rao claimed that Congress had promised to raise the budgetary allocation for minority development and welfare to ₹4,000 crore. He said actual spending was about ₹1,300 crore.

He contrasted that figure with the previous BRS government’s allocation. According to Rao, the minority budget had been about ₹300 crore before K. Chandrashekar Rao became chief minister and had later increased to ₹1,800 crore under the BRS administration.

Rao also alleged that minority communities were not receiving adequate support from the Minority Finance Corporation. The supplied report did not include a response from the Congress government or figures independently verifying his claims. He said the BRS government had provided overseas scholarships to minority students on the same basis as scholarships for students from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Backward Class communities.

Rao claimed that about ₹1,550 crore had been provided for overseas scholarships for minority students during the BRS period. He said the Congress government had provided only ₹14 crore during its first three years. His remarks were made while distributing tools to some young members of minority communities at Gajwel.

The report did not specify the number of beneficiaries or the value of the tools.
