Police in Bengaluru have arrested a carpenter accused of fatally stabbing a painter during an argument over cooking at an unfinished house. Officers said the dispute escalated after the painter allegedly struck the carpenter, who then used a kitchen knife.
A 30-year-old painter has died after being allegedly stabbed by a carpenter during a quarrel at an under-construction house in Bengaluru, police said. The incident occurred on Sunday in Kenchenahalli, within the limits of the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Police Station. The victim was identified as Amit Kumar, a native of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.
The accused, Sunil Kumar, is also from Uttar Pradesh and was working as a carpenter at the same site. Police said four workers—three carpenters and one painter—were living and working at the unfinished house. According to the police account, Sunil was allegedly drunk when he began arguing with Amit over cooking.
The dispute became more serious after Amit allegedly hit Sunil during the confrontation. Police said Sunil then picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Amit. The painter suffered heavy blood loss and died from the injury.
Officers from the Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station went to the site, inspected the scene and arrested Sunil. The police have begun further investigation into the circumstances of the death. The available account does not state whether charges have been formally filed or provide further details about the alleged weapon, the workers’ employment arrangements or any court proceedings.
