Ogun ADC urges members to settle disputes internally

The African Democratic Congress in Ogun State has urged members to use dialogue and the party’s internal dispute-resolution channels instead of taking disagreements to court. State Publicity Secretary Olumide Onabajo warned that prolonged litigation could drain the party’s resources, deepen divisions and distract it from preparations for the 2027 elections.
The African Democratic Congress in Ogun State has called on its members to resolve internal disagreements through dialogue and reconciliation rather than prolonged court battles. The appeal was made by the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Olumide Onabajo, in a statement released on Sunday. Onabajo said the party was concerned about what he described as an increasingly frequent resort to litigation over matters that could be handled through the ADC’s internal dispute-resolution mechanisms.
He said unresolved legal disputes risked weakening the party as it prepared for forthcoming elections. The spokesman also alleged that some people who had recently joined the ADC from other political parties might be seeking to create divisions and prolong disagreements. He did not identify the individuals or provide details of the alleged conduct.
Onabajo said the ADC had grown into a formidable political force in Ogun State, but warned that internal conflicts could consume the time, money and energy needed for mobilisation, organisation, policy development and the selection of credible candidates. He argued that political disagreements should not automatically become court cases, saying the judiciary should distinguish between disputes that were genuinely justiciable and matters that were essentially internal party disagreements presented as legal claims. The party official referred to Sections 83(5) and 83(6)(b) of the Electoral Act 2026, saying the provisions restrict court jurisdiction over certain internal party matters and provide financial penalties in specified circumstances.
He said the appeal was not intended to deny anyone lawful access to justice. Onabajo urged ADC leaders, aspirants, stakeholders and members to place the party above individual ambitions. He said the party remained open to genuine new members, but added that membership should not be used to destabilise the organisation.
He described differences and competing ambitions as normal in a democratic party, but said they should not become permanent conflict.
