Centre promises six lakh more rural homes for Andhra Pradesh
Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said Andhra Pradesh would receive six lakh additional houses under the rural housing programme, beyond three lakh homes whose construction has begun. He also launched a pilot for 177 3D-printed houses and pledged support for rural infrastructure.
The Union government will sanction six lakh additional rural houses for Andhra Pradesh, Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Sunday. The announcement came at Burripalem in Tenali, where Chouhan and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for three lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin 2.0.
Chouhan said another three lakh houses would be sanctioned by the time the current construction was completed, followed by a further allocation of three lakh houses. He said the Centre would provide full support to Andhra Pradesh’s development. The minister also said the Union government was providing farmers ₹6,000 a year, while the state government was adding ₹14,000 through the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme.
Together, he said, the annual assistance totalled ₹20,000. He urged villages to use the Viksit Bharat–Gramin Yojana for basic infrastructure such as drains, roads and drinking-water facilities. Chouhan praised Naidu’s leadership and said the Centre and state were pursuing comprehensive development in Andhra Pradesh.
The event also saw the launch of a pilot project for government-led 3D concrete-printed homes. A total of 177 houses will be built at Burripalem and Obulanayudupalem under the initiative, which Chouhan described as the first of its kind in the country. Chouhan criticised the Congress over the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, alleging that the state had been left without sufficient support or a capital.
He said the NDA governments at the Centre and in the state were moving Andhra Pradesh towards development. He also expressed confidence in Amaravati’s potential to become a centre for artificial intelligence, data centres and quantum computing. The source did not provide a completion schedule for the announced houses.
