CPI(M) Malappuram district meeting opens in Ponnani

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) began its expanded Malappuram district committee meeting at Ponnani on Saturday, with party Politburo member and Kerala Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurating the two-day session. Senior leader Paloli Mohammedkutty hoisted the party flag at the RV Palace auditorium at Chamravattom before the opening session.
District secretary V.P. Anil presented the organisational report. Delegates began discussing the report after group discussions, with the debate scheduled to continue on Sunday.
The meeting will end after the party leadership responds to the issues raised during the deliberations. The session has 135 participants. They include 42 district committee members, 54 representatives from 18 area committees and 29 representatives of mass organisations.

Shailaja and C.S. Sujatha. State secretariat members M.
Swaraj and V. Sivankutty are also participating. The programme will conclude on Sunday with a procession and public meeting.
The procession is scheduled to begin at 4.30 p.m. from C.V. Junction near Ponnani Harbour and end at Nilayorapatha.
Organisers expect about 50,000 people from seven coastal area committees to participate in the concluding events. Vijayan is scheduled to inaugurate the public meeting. The meeting’s stated agenda is organisational, with delegates examining the district secretary’s report and discussing how the party should work among the people.
