Labour Party youth leaders seek talks on possible Tinubu alliance

Source: Punch Nigeria · 03 Oct 2026, 17:06 UTC

Nigeria’s Labour Party Youth Wing has proposed consultations with the APC and groups supporting President Bola Tinubu over a possible political alignment before the 2027 elections. The proposal followed a virtual meeting in which youth leaders cited dissatisfaction with their treatment and the party’s continuing internal crisis.

The Labour Party Youth Wing has proposed consultations with the All Progressives Congress and groups supporting President Bola Tinubu about a possible political alignment ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election. The proposal was contained in a statement signed by Edo State Labour Party Youth Leader Ken Omusi and published on the party’s official X account. It followed a virtual meeting involving National Youth Leader Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, five national zonal youth leaders and 32 state youth leaders.

According to the statement, the meeting took place on Friday to consider the party’s political direction amid what participants described as a prolonged internal crisis and concerns about the future of youth participation. The youth leaders mandated Ahanotu to begin consultations with the APC, the Renewed Hope Movement, the City Boy Movement and Tinubu Support Groups. The consultations are intended to explore possible collaboration, rather than constitute a final decision on an alliance.

Participants cited what they described as inadequate recognition, engagement and support for young people during and after the 2023 elections. They also discussed government policies covering human capital development, youth empowerment, economic reforms, infrastructure, health, education, security, agriculture and workers’ welfare. The statement said the proposal would be considered further after the consultations.

The youth leaders also proposed a physical meeting in Abuja to review the outcome and decide their next steps. The development comes as political groups begin positioning themselves ahead of 2027. The Labour Party has also faced factional divisions, with different groups presenting separate presidential candidates in internal processes.

Any alliance would therefore require further consultations and consensus-building, according to the youth leaders’ statement.
