Cross River seals 10 schools in latest approval enforcement exercise

Cross River State has shut 10 schools operating without approval to operate, including nine in Calabar-South and one in Odukpani. The education ministry said enforcement would continue across all 18 local government areas and warned proprietors against reopening sealed institutions without authorisation.
The Cross River State Government has shut 10 unapproved schools in an enforcement exercise aimed at ensuring compliance with education standards. The operation was conducted by the Quality Assurance Department of the State Ministry of Education. It targeted institutions operating without the required Approval to Operate.
Commissioner for Education Stephen Odey said the action was intended to protect pupils and students by ensuring schools met requirements for effective teaching and learning. He urged proprietors of unapproved institutions to begin the process of regularising their schools. Odey warned that any school sealed by the ministry and reopened without authorisation would face appropriate sanctions.
He said the enforcement would continue across all 18 local government areas of the state. As of October 2, nine of the schools closed in the latest exercise were in Calabar-South Local Government Area, while one was in Odukpani. The Calabar-South schools listed by the ministry were Aunty Offiong’s Talent Nursery/Primary School, Dreams and Destiny Manifestation Nursery/Primary School, Abba’s Delight Kids Academy, Evangel High School and Destined Headers International School.
The other schools in Calabar-South were Phronesis-Sunesis School of Excellence, Emerald Bay Schools, Elsin Foundation and Bridgeway International Schools. God’slife Nursery/Primary School in Odukpani was also shut. The commissioner said compliance with approved standards was necessary to provide pupils and students with safe and suitable learning environments.
He added that the ministry would intensify monitoring and regulatory work as the exercise continued across the state.
