Delta police rescue woman and arrest five in separate crime operations

Delta State police say they rescued a 25-year-old woman allegedly held hostage and arrested five suspects in separate operations linked to kidnapping allegations and a cult-related killing. Officers reported recovering a fabricated pistol, ammunition, bladed weapons and a hammer during the operations.
The Delta State Police Command says it has rescued a 25-year-old woman allegedly assaulted and held hostage and arrested five suspects in separate operations involving kidnapping allegations and a cult-related killing. Police spokesperson Bright Edafe said officers from Otu-Jeremi Division acted on intelligence and moved to Usiefrun Community on October 3. They rescued the woman and arrested Brotugbare Francis Onome, 29.
A search of the premises allegedly produced a fabricated Beretta pistol, a magazine and two rounds of live ammunition. The command said an investigation was continuing. In another operation on October 1, officers from Abraka Division arrested Endurance Akpade, 37, and Edwin Friday Morgan, 43, over an alleged conspiracy to kidnap a woman in Abraka.
Civilian anti-cult operatives took part in the operation, according to the police. The command also said its Violent Crime Response Unit arrested Ezekiel Sunday Izomor, 23, and Emmanuel Ogaganefe, 23, at a suspected hideout in Oghara. The arrests followed a video allegedly showing suspected cultists celebrating the killing of a 25-year-old man identified as Godfrey at Jesse Main Market in March.
Police said a battle axe, four cutlasses and a hammer were recovered. They alleged that a suspect identified as Collins had worked with the arrested men and another person, Richman, in the killing. Collins and Richman remain at large, police said.
The arrested suspects were assisting with investigations. Commissioner of Police Samuel Erale praised the officers and urged the public to provide timely information, while warning youths against cultism.
