Egbin Power has held the 11th edition of its annual scholarship programme for students in communities hosting its Lagos power-generation facility. Community representatives praised the initiative, while chief executive Mokhtar Bounour described education support as a long-term investment in young people and community development.

Egbin Power has presented scholarships to students from communities hosting its power-generation facility in Ikorodu, Lagos, as part of the 11th edition of its annual education-support programme. The award ceremony took place at the Egbin Power Clubhouse Auditorium. Community leaders and beneficiaries commended the company for continuing the initiative, which is intended to support academic development among students in the host communities.

High Chief Babatunde Ogunmuyiwa, Odofin of Ijede, represented the Alajede of Ijede Kingdom, Oba Adefarasin Hassan, at the event. He said the scholarship had improved the prospects of students and families and encouraged young people to work harder academically. Wahab Bello, speaking on behalf of six Community Liaison Officers representing the host communities, also praised the company’s investment in education.

He urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the opportunity. Egbin Power chief executive Mokhtar Bounour said the company remained committed to education and to expanding opportunities for young people. He described the programme as a deliberate, long-term investment in future leaders, professionals and change-makers.

Royalty Olasunkanmi was named the top scholar in the Host Community Category and encouraged other students to improve their academic performance. Another beneficiary, Mercy, received the top scholar recognition in the Academic Excellence Award Category and said the support had strengthened her academic ambitions. The company said the scholarship forms part of wider community-development work covering education, healthcare, youth empowerment and infrastructure.
