Ekiti governor asks Muslim community to support Tinubu’s re-election

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has appealed to Muslim residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, pointing to federal interventions in the state. Speaking at a thanksgiving service marking his second term, he also promised continued Muslim participation in his administration.
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has urged Muslims in the state to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election, citing what he described as federal government interventions and support for Ekiti. Oyebanji made the appeal on Friday during a special Jumat thanksgiving service at the Central Mosque in Ado-Ekiti. The event formed part of activities marking the start of his second term in office, according to a statement made available to PUNCH.
The governor thanked the Muslim community for its prayers and support during his first term and asked for continued prayers as he begins another term. He also pledged to preserve opportunities for Muslims and other stakeholders to participate in his administration. Oyebanji said Muslim appointees had performed well in government.
He added that he had consulted the Grand Imam before appointing some of them and promised that more Muslims would be given opportunities to serve during his second term. He linked his appeal for support for Tinubu to the federal government’s interventions in Ekiti and urged the Muslim community to recognise that assistance. He also said his administration would continue to focus on residents’ welfare and work with religious institutions to promote peace, unity and development.
Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere Bello, president-general of the League of Imams and Alfas for the South-West, Edo and Delta States, commended the governor for appointing Muslims to government positions. He said the appointments had enabled members of the community to contribute to the state’s development. Bello urged Muslim appointees to maintain their performance and called on Muslims to pray for Oyebanji and other leaders.
The service was attended by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and other state officials.
