The Centre of Indian Trade Unions has urged workers to join its ‘Chalo Parliament’ programme in Delhi from December 1 to 3. The union is seeking higher wages, job security and an end to privatisation, while accusing the Centre and Andhra Pradesh government of policies that could harm workers.

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions has called on workers to intensify protests over labour rights, wages, job security and privatisation, including through a three-day programme in Delhi in December. CITU Andhra Pradesh general secretary A.V. Nageswara Rao made the appeal at a meeting in Visakhapatnam marking the 81st anniversary of the World Federation of Trade Unions.

He said workers’ struggles were expanding worldwide and urged them to protect their rights. CITU’s Visakhapatnam district general secretary, R.K.S.V. Kumar, alleged that the Centre had introduced four labour codes favouring corporates.

He said the measures could affect job security and working conditions. Mr. Kumar also alleged that the Andhra Pradesh government was pursuing privatisation policies.

The source material does not provide a response from either the Union or State government to these claims. CITU asked workers to participate in its ‘Chalo Parliament’ programme in Delhi from December 1 to 3. The organisation said the action would seek higher wages, secure employment and an end to privatisation.

The union’s call came as part of a broader appeal to workers to strengthen their struggles. The material does not specify the number of participants expected, the locations of the Delhi demonstrations or whether discussions with the authorities have been scheduled.
