Organisers of the Family Business Summit 2026 say the event will examine how family-owned companies can move beyond founder-led operations and remain viable across generations. The October summit will address succession, governance, capital, innovation and the preparation of younger family members for leadership roles.

The Family Business Summit 2026 will focus on succession planning and the challenges faced by companies that depend heavily on their founders, organisers said on Sunday. The three-day event is scheduled for October 15 to 17 and will be themed “Beyond the Founder: Scaling Family Businesses Across Generations”. My Family My Business, PwC Nigeria and BusinessDay announced the dates in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES.

The summit will bring together family business owners, younger potential leaders, wealth advisers and other professionals. Discussions will cover succession planning, governance, access to capital and the role of younger generations in sustaining family enterprises. Summit convener Oghenevwoke Ighure said a family business’s survival after its founder should not be its only measure of success.

He said companies also needed to create value, respond to changing economic conditions and give subsequent generations opportunities to build on existing work. The organisers said the event would encourage families to address leadership, governance, capital and innovation before those issues become crises. They said the absence of formal governance and transition plans can contribute to disputes and make continuity difficult when founders retire or die.

PwC Nigeria findings presented at the 2024 summit indicated that family businesses account for more than 70 per cent of Nigeria’s small and medium-sized enterprises and contribute almost half of gross domestic product. The supplied material does not provide an independent assessment of those figures. The 2026 programme will include practical sessions, a Family Business Deal Room and a NextGen Bootcamp.

Speakers listed by the organisers include Bolaji Balogun, Sam Abu, Tara Fela-Durotoye, Esiri Agbeyi, Temilola Adepetun and Dominique Turpin. PwC Nigeria will serve as academic and knowledge partner.
