FCT approves upgrades for 14 hospitals and restart of Utako project
The FCT Executive Council has approved immediate renovation and upgrading of the territory’s 14 general hospitals, including new equipment and improved theatres. It also directed work to resume at the abandoned Utako General Hospital, alongside approvals for court digitalisation, school materials and infrastructure projects.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration has approved the immediate renovation and upgrading of all 14 general hospitals in the territory and ordered work to resume on the long-abandoned Utako General Hospital. The decisions were reached at the 19th meeting of the FCT Executive Council, chaired by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. A statement issued by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said the council considered 20 memoranda.
Health Mandate Secretary Adedolapo Fasawe said the hospital intervention would include new medical equipment, diagnostic facilities and X-ray machines, as well as upgrades to hospital theatres. She said the Utako project would cover construction, equipment and staffing. Fasawe said the measures were intended to improve access to quality and affordable healthcare for FCT residents.
She added that the administration had continued meeting its financial obligations to health insurance providers and Health Maintenance Organisations through premium and capitation payments. The council also approved the digitalisation of the FCT High Court, covering about 67 courtrooms. General Counsel Salman Dako said electronic recording and case-management systems would replace manual documentation and physical filing, with implementation expected to begin immediately.
In education, the council approved contracts for examination materials for pupils and students in primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools. Education Mandate Secretary Danlami Hayyo said the approval would support the conduct of examinations across public schools. The council further approved a N5.703bn contract for a 33KVA power line from Dawaki to Tukulo and nearby villages in Bwari Area Council.
It ratified completed road projects in Bwari and Gwagwalada, valued at N8.219bn and N8.890bn respectively, and approved information-technology and security upgrades for land-revenue operations.
