FCT council approves upgrades for 14 general hospitals and Utako facility

The Federal Capital Territory Executive Council has approved the renovation, rehabilitation and upgrading of all 14 general hospitals in the territory. The decisions were reached at the council’s 19th meeting, chaired by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and attended by Minister of State Mariya Mahmoud. Officials said the health intervention would include new medical equipment, diagnostic facilities and theatre upgrades.

Health Secretary Adedolapo Fasawe said work would also resume at the long-abandoned Utako General Hospital. The project will cover construction, equipping and staffing, she said, with the aim of improving access to affordable healthcare. Fasawe added that the administration had continued paying premiums and capitation to health insurance providers and Health Maintenance Organisations.

The council approved digitalisation of the FCT High Court, covering about 67 courtrooms. General Counsel Salman Dako said electronic recording and case-management systems would replace manual recording and physical files, with implementation expected to begin immediately. The Education Secretariat received approval for contracts to provide examination materials for pupils and students in public primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools.

Education Secretary Danlami Hayyo said the measure would support the administration’s work on school facilities and instructional materials. The Satellite Towns Development Department secured approval for a N5.703 billion contract to build a 33KVA power line from Dawaki to Tukulo and surrounding villages in Bwari Area Council. The project, awarded to CGC Nigeria Limited, is due within eight months.

The council also ratified completed road projects in Bwari and Gwagwalada, and approved land-administration technology, revenue receipts, environmental maintenance and water-treatment supplies.
