New Kano assembly member promises active representation for constituents

Yusuf Datti-Hussaini, the newly sworn-in member representing Dawakin-Kudu Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly, has pledged to provide active and effective representation for his constituents. Datti-Hussaini, who belongs to the All Progressives Congress, made the commitment while speaking to journalists on Tuesday after taking his oath of office. He said he would not remain inactive in the legislature or neglect the constituency he represents.

The lawmaker promised to operate an open and transparent administration and to work towards improving the welfare and livelihoods of residents in the constituency. “I will not be here to sleep or abandon my seat. I will make sure I fully represent the people of my area in order to uplift their livelihoods,” he said.

Datti-Hussaini also said he would continue projects and initiatives associated with his predecessor. He specifically pledged to follow up on motions previously raised on the floor of the assembly and introduce new motions aimed at attracting meaningful projects to Dawakin-Kudu. He urged constituents to monitor the assembly’s programmes and sittings so they could track what was being allocated to them.

He also asked them to inform him about any needs or omissions affecting the constituency. “I promise them that I am not here to cheat them, but I will work to the best of my ability for the betterment of my society and the state in general,” he said. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Datti-Hussaini was elected to fill a vacant seat after the former occupant moved to the House of Representatives.

In a separate development, the Kano State House of Assembly confirmed the reappointment of former Speaker Gambo Sallau as chairman of the Kano State Assembly Service Commission.
