University of Calabar warns students over alleged results scam

The University of Calabar has warned students about an alleged impostor who is using the name “Prof. Odong” to solicit money by claiming he can help improve examination results. In a statement issued by its Public Relations Unit, the university said its Security Department had established that no staff member known as Prof.

Odong worked in its Information and Communication Technology unit. The university alleged that the suspect contacts students by telephone, tells them their examination results are poor and asks them to pay for assistance. It identified the telephone number used in the alleged contacts as 08144115929.

Preliminary checks indicated that the suspect operates from Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State, according to the statement. The university did not state whether an arrest had been made or identify any student who had allegedly paid money. Management urged students to disregard communications from the suspect and warned them not to disclose personal or examination information to anyone claiming to have the power to alter or facilitate their results.

The university said it had zero tolerance for unethical practices and would sanction anyone found culpable. It also asked students who had been contacted to report the matter promptly to the appropriate authorities. The institution said the warning formed part of its efforts to protect students and preserve the integrity of its academic processes.
