Former ADC leader Umar Salah joins APC in Sokoto

Umar Salah, a former chieftain of the African Democratic Congress in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, has defected to the All Progressives Congress. Salah was received into the APC on Saturday by Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal, chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board. The event was supported by the state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Ahmed Ladan Ala.

His move followed a meeting with Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the Government House in Sokoto. Explaining his decision, Salah said the governor’s development projects had persuaded him and his supporters to back the administration. “Governor Ahmed Aliyu has done a lot for the state through the execution of various developmental projects aimed at improving the quality of life of the citizenry,” Salah said.

He subsequently pledged his total support, and that of his followers, to Aliyu ahead of the 2027 general elections. The defection comes as political parties in Sokoto intensify mobilisation before the elections. Receiving Salah, Nagwari Tambuwal said he would be treated equally with other APC members.
