Four CISF personnel killed in shooting at Jammu and Kashmir camp

Four Central Industrial Security Force personnel were killed after a colleague opened fire at a camp at the Sewa 2 hydropower project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, officials said. The incident occurred during a change of duty, when an argument reportedly broke out among CISF personnel. The dispute escalated into gunfire, seriously injuring four people, all of whom later died.

The deceased were identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, Constable Sanjeev Kumar and Constable Mohd. Rafiq. The incident is being treated as fratricide, meaning a shooting involving personnel from the same force.

The reason for the argument and the circumstances leading to the firing were not immediately known. A team from Kathua district police reached the site and was tasked with investigating the incident. CISF headquarters has ordered a Court of Inquiry to establish the sequence of events and determine what led to the shooting.

The Director General of the CISF is monitoring developments and the investigation, according to the report. Senior officers also travelled to the scene, while officials said further details were awaited. The Sewa 2 hydropower project is located in Basholi tehsil near the Himachal Pradesh border. The area shares a border with Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district.
