Bauchi police arrest 60-year-old man over alleged kidnapping of teenager

The Bauchi State Police Command said it arrested a 60-year-old man, Abdullahi Abubakar, over the alleged kidnapping of a 16-year-old boy in Zigau Village, Shira Local Government Area. The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement that the boy, Usman Dauda, was rescued unhurt during the operation. The statement said the teenager’s father reported the alleged abduction to the Yana Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to Habib, the report was received at about 10pm on September 28, 2026. The boy’s father alleged that his son had been taken from Misau town to Bangala Village and that Abubakar intended to take him to Kano for reasons that had not been established. The police spokesperson said detectives mobilised after receiving the report, rescued the teenager and arrested the suspect.

The boy was taken to General Hospital Yana for a medical examination. Habib said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect had unlawfully confined the teenager in his room for a day without proper feeding. The source material did not state whether charges had been filed against Abubakar.

In a separate operation, police arrested five people at Doya Quarters, Bauchi, over alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, housebreaking, mischief and theft. Habib said they had allegedly entered an incomplete building and removed windows and glass before the owner arrived. The items were recovered as exhibits.

The command also reported arrests after suspected stolen items were found concealed in a black bag. Police said the owners later identified the items and provided proof of ownership. Commissioner Sani-Omolori Aliyu directed that the cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and prosecution.
