A private bus carrying about 54 villagers to a funeral overturned on a downhill stretch of Ananthagiri Hills in Telangana’s Vikarabad district. Four women died and several passengers were injured, with police investigating a suspected brake failure. Seven injured passengers were reported to be seriously hurt.

Four women were killed and several passengers injured when a private bus carrying villagers to a funeral overturned on Ananthagiri ghat road in Telangana’s Vikarabad district on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The bus was carrying about 54 passengers from Kesaram village in Patancheru to Chintakunta village in Dharur mandal. The group was travelling to attend a funeral when the accident occurred on a downhill stretch of Ananthagiri Hills.

Preliminary information indicated that the driver lost control after the bus’s brakes allegedly failed. The vehicle veered from the road and overturned. The deceased were identified as Yadamma, Padmamma and Pramila; the identity of the fourth woman was not immediately known.

Several passengers were trapped or injured in the crash. Local residents helped remove people from the vehicle before emergency services arrived. Police and rescue personnel then shifted the injured to a nearby hospital.

Seven passengers were reported to have sustained serious injuries, although their conditions were not immediately available. Police opened an inquiry into the suspected brake failure and the circumstances surrounding the driver’s loss of control. Telangana Chief Minister A.
