Gbajabiamila renews loyalty pledge to Tinubu after PFIPC allegations

Nigeria’s Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the president while rejecting allegations that he was involved in the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. Gbajabiamila spoke on Saturday at his 2026 mega empowerment programme at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos. He said investigations had been completed and that the reports were publicly available, adding that due process had been followed before conclusions were reached.

He said the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Services and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission had cleared him of wrongdoing. Gbajabiamila also thanked Tinubu for refusing to act before the investigations were concluded. The controversy began after Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who described himself as director-general of the purported council, accused Gbajabiamila of seeking and receiving money linked to an alleged appointment.

Adeyemi claimed that ₦400 million had been paid through a proxy and that a further ₦200 million was demanded. Gbajabiamila denied the allegations and said he had no personal, official or professional relationship with Adeyemi. The Presidency later said the council had not been established by the Federal Government, while Tinubu directed the ICPC to investigate the organisation, disputed appointment documents and related claims.

The ICPC questioned Gbajabiamila during the investigation but said he was not arrested and had voluntarily responded to its invitation. The House of Representatives also examined the matter through an ad hoc committee. According to the source material, the committee found no evidence that Gbajabiamila authorised, established or participated in the organisation’s activities.

It also said the appointment letter presented by Adeyemi was fake. Addressing supporters in Lagos, Gbajabiamila said the allegations had not weakened his commitment to his presidential duties or to Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. He warned that people using his name to defraud others or misrepresent him would face the law, and said his political loyalty to the president remained unchanged.
