The ceremony marked the commissioning of cadets from the 73 Regular Course, Short Service Course 49 of the Army, Direct Short Service Course 34 of the Air Force and Branch Commission Course 3 of the Air Force.
Addressing the officers through Abbas, Tinubu said their training had prepared them for the responsibilities associated with military service. “The Nation is counting on you,” he said, while calling on them to demonstrate professionalism, courage and integrity in their duties. The president also commended the academy for adapting its programmes to the changing requirements of modern warfare.
He specifically highlighted its focus on counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency training, technological innovation, international partnerships and wider recognition in the global military community. Tinubu urged the NDA to sustain its pursuit of excellence and continue producing officers capable of responding to emerging security challenges. He reminded the new officers that safeguarding the nation and protecting its citizens were constitutional responsibilities.
The event was attended by Defence Minister officials, the Minister of State for Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, other service chiefs and senior government and military figures. Officers’ Wives Associations were also represented. The commissioning begins a new phase of service for the officers, who are expected to uphold the traditions and professional standards of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
