Gbajabiamila says police, DSS and ICPC found no wrongdoing

Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, said on Saturday that investigations by the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Services and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission cleared him of wrongdoing. Gbajabiamila made the statement in Lagos at an empowerment event for residents of Surulere. He said the allegations had subjected him to an unexpected period of scrutiny but maintained that the investigative reports were publicly available.

The allegations followed investigations into the activities of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council. Gbajabiamila appeared before the ICPC in July 2026. The commission later said it found no evidence linking him or his office to the organisation or to the appointment of its alleged director-general.

Gbajabiamila thanked Tinubu for insisting that due process be followed rather than reaching a conclusion before the investigations were completed. He said the experience showed the difficulties that could accompany public service and urged young people seeking political office not to be discouraged by such challenges. He also said attempts to distract him would not affect his responsibilities and warned people using his name to defraud or misrepresent members of the public that they would face the law.

The event involved cash grants, vehicles, equipment and other assistance valued at about ₦1.15 billion. Gbajabiamila said roughly 5,000 people benefited, including 3,905 recipients of ₦250,000 each and 348 recipients of ₦500,000 each. The package also included 61 electric vehicles, 50 electric tricycles, 60 minibuses and 100 laptops, as well as buses, security vehicles, an ambulance and other vehicles.

He said charging stations would be installed and described the electric transport component as part of a move towards cleaner and cheaper transportation.
