Government approves October 2026 launch of African Global Festival

The Federal Government has approved the launch of the African Global Festival Nigeria, known as AGLOFEST, in October 2026 as part of efforts to expand cultural diplomacy and economic engagement with Africa and the global Black Diaspora. The festival is being developed as a public-private partnership involving government agencies, investors, businesses, cultural institutions, creative professionals and development partners. Relevant ministries involved in the initiative include those responsible for art, culture, tourism and the creative economy; trade, investment and industry; and foreign affairs.

Organisers say the festival will showcase Nigeria’s cultural heritage, tourism opportunities, creative industries and investment prospects. It is also intended to position the country as a meeting point for Africans and members of the global Black Diaspora. AGLOFEST will have three main elements.

The Black Diaspora Economic Forum will focus on trade, investment and business partnerships, while the Black Diaspora Cultural Presentation will highlight African heritage and creative expression. The third component, the Renewed Global Hope and Peace Concert, will use music and entertainment to promote peace, unity and international engagement. The festival’s convener and T-BYK chief executive, Tunde MacAlabi, thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the initiative.

He said the October 2026 launch would begin a longer-term effort to strengthen Nigeria’s economic, cultural and strategic ties with the global Black Diaspora. MacAlabi said discussions were continuing with prospective international participants, investors, sponsors and cultural organisations. He said the initiative could create opportunities in tourism, hospitality, aviation, transport, entertainment, trade, investment and infrastructure, and invited governments, businesses and international partners to support it.
