Railway infrastructure projects under way in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district have a combined estimated cost of ₹13,724.70 crore, according to Union Minister of State Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar. The programme includes eight road-over-bridges, line-doubling works, new railway lines and other track and traction improvements.

Railway infrastructure projects under way in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district have a combined estimated cost of ₹13,724.70 crore, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar has said. The programme includes eight road-over-bridges, railway-line doubling, new lines and other infrastructure improvements intended to improve movement between Guntur, Amaravati and surrounding areas. The eight road-over-bridges account for ₹745.62 crore.

The latest is the Gaddipadu LC-03 bridge, for which the foundation stone was laid recently. The four-lane bridge is being built on the Guntur-Krishna Canal railway section between Guntur and Namburu. The Gaddipadu project has a detailed estimate of ₹147.36 crore, a sanctioned cost of ₹107.79 crore and a tender cost of ₹69.52 crore.

The 668-metre structure will include railway, viaduct and reinforced-earth-wall sections. The level crossing handles an average of 78 trains a day and 15,99,935 train vehicle units. The bridge is intended to separate road and rail traffic and reduce delays at the railway gate.

It will also support traffic using the Guntur Inner Ring Road and routes connecting Amaravati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad. Other road-over-bridges are planned at Sankar Vilas, Pedapalakaluru, Mangalagiri, Nandivelugu, Syamala Nagar, Sanjeevaiah Nagar and E-13 Yerrabalem-AIIMS. Major railway works include doubling on the Guntur-Guntakal, Guntur-Bibinagar and Guntur-Tenali routes.

New lines are planned between Errupalem, Amaravati and Namburu, and between Nadikudi and Srikalahasti. Additional works include traction upgrades and improvements to bridges and culverts.
