Three Gujarat residents reported missing after alleged Ethiopia abduction

Three residents of Gujarat have been reported missing after travelling to Ethiopia on their way to the United States through an alleged illegal route, police said. Their families claim the three were abducted and that a ransom of ₹1 crore was demanded. The missing people are Rutvik Jansari of Vadsma village in Mehsana district, Mamta Chavda of Mehsana, who currently lives in Ahmedabad, and Mayuri of Gandhinagar.

The three are related, according to the report. Relatives said the group left India on September 20 with the help of an agent from Mehsana, who allegedly connected them to another agent from Vadodara. Police said contact with the three could not be established after September 22.

Mamta’s father, Kiritbhai Chauhan, claimed the family had paid about ₹70 lakh for each person to arrange travel to the US. He said the three were held captive after reaching Ethiopia and that the alleged kidnappers demanded ₹1 crore for their release. Rutvik’s grandfather, Kanubhai Jansari, made a similar claim and said ₹60 lakh had already been paid to the alleged abductors.

M. Gehlot of Langhnaj police station said Mamta’s father lodged a missing-person complaint on September 29. According to the complaint, Mamta’s husband had travelled to the US on a student visa about six months earlier, while Mamta had unsuccessfully tried to obtain an American visa.

Gehlot said intermediaries were then approached to arrange travel through an illegal route. The journey was allegedly fixed at ₹75 lakh per person. Families have appealed to the government to help bring the three back safely.
