Hong Kong police surrounded a flat at Tsz Ching Estate on Sunday night after a woman was reportedly seen carrying a knife and moving through the Wong Tai Sin area. Police received a report at about 6.50pm that a woman in her forties had travelled from Diamond Hill MTR station towards the nearby Plaza Hollywood shopping centre while carrying a knife. Officers then searched the area.
Counter Terrorism Response Unit members carrying round shields were seen searching inside the mall. No suspect was initially found, according to the supplied report. The woman was said to have used an eight-inch knife to slash repeatedly at a customer service counter at Diamond Hill station before heading towards Plaza Hollywood.
Police later reviewed CCTV footage and traced her to Ching Fai House at Tsz Ching Estate. More than 10 Emergency Unit officers were deployed to the residential block. By 10pm, officers wearing tactical vests and carrying shields were guarding the lobby, while others carrying a battering ram were seen going upstairs.
The report did not say whether officers entered the flat, found the woman or made an arrest. It also did not provide information about injuries or damage beyond the reported slashing at the station counter. Plaza Hollywood was the site of a fatal knife attack in June 2023, when two women were killed.
The earlier incident was described in the report as having shocked the city.
