Hong Kong prepares attractions for National Day holiday visitors

Hong Kong is preparing a range of attractions for an expected 1.29 million mainland Chinese visitors during the National Day “golden week” holiday. The programme includes a 23-minute fireworks display over Victoria Harbour on October 1. Organisers plan to launch 31,888 shells from nine firing points between 8pm and the end of the display.
Visitors can also explore Po Pin Chau along the High Island Geo Trail in Sai Kung. A trial reservation system limits visitors to 2,000 on selected dates. The system will operate during the mainland’s seven-day holiday.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club will hold National Day races at Sha Tin on October 1, with free public-enclosure entry. The main event is the HK$4.2 million National Day Cup Handicap. The Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival at Victoria Park has been extended until October 4.
Displays include lanterns depicting local food, daily life and traditional imagery. Outdoor visitors can cycle about 22 kilometres from Sha Tin to Tai Mei Tuk along the Tolo Harbour coastline. The route passes Pak Shek Kok and Tai Po Waterfront Park before ending at Tai Mei Tuk.
