Indian officials seized cosmetics worth about ₹7 lakh from shops in Hyderabad after identifying the products as unauthorised for import. Police said the stock lacked required registration and documentation, while regulators had previously warned that some similar products contained heavy metals above permitted limits.

Authorities in Hyderabad have seized Pakistan-made cosmetics worth about ₹7 lakh from shops suspected of selling products imported without the required authorisation. The Commissioner’s Task Force, Rajendranagar Zone, carried out searches on September 30 with officials from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation. The inspections covered Beauty Ladies Emporium, Beauty Queen Shop and S.J.

Medical Shop in Habeeb Nagar and Nampally. CDSCO officials identified the products as among unauthorised or banned cosmetics listed in a public notice issued on September 8. Police said the seized items did not carry the registration certificate required for import into India.

The products included skin-whitening creams and soaps manufactured in Pakistan. Brands identified by investigators included Goree, Chandni, Faiz, Navia, Golden Pearl, Sadaf, Face Fresh, Stillmans and Noor Gold. According to police, the CDSCO notice warned that certain products of this type contained heavy metals above permissible limits, potentially creating health risks for consumers.

The source material did not identify the specific substances found in the seized stock or report any confirmed injuries. A preliminary inquiry indicated that the cosmetics were obtained through a dealer based in Mumbai. Investigators suspect the dealer arranged supplies from outside India and distributed them to Hyderabad retailers.

Police said local sellers did not maintain proper purchase bills, invoices or other procurement documents. Similar products were allegedly found at Madina Cosmetic in Santosh Nagar, while additional stock was believed to be stored at a godown whose location, ownership and quantity were still being verified. Five people were identified during the investigation: Mohammad Fazal, Mohammad Ayan, Mohammad Riyazuddin, Syed Abid Ali and Syed Ismail.

Authorities registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Investigators were tracing the Mumbai supplier and examining the source and method of import, financial transactions and other shops that may have sold the products.
