Hyderabad traffic restrictions continue as Ganesh immersions clog Tank Bund routes

Ganesh idol immersions continued at Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad on Saturday, with a large number of idols still awaiting immersion and trucks forming long queues along the Tank Bund area. The movement of idol-carrying trucks towards Tank Bund remained heavy through Friday night, while processions and vehicles carrying devotees contributed to congestion in several parts of the city. The delays affected routes leading to the immersion points.

Major gridlock was reported at Mozamjahi Market, Shalibanda, Afzalgunj, Lakdikapul and Himayatnagar, as well as on roads leading towards Tank Bund. Families arriving in large numbers, along with devotees and procession vehicles, added to the traffic pressure. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C.

Sajjanar said in a video message posted on X on Saturday morning that restrictions would remain in force during the day because the immersion processions were continuing. The affected routes included Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg, PV Statue and areas around Indira Gandhi Rotary, the Commissioner said. These roads were being used by processions moving towards the immersion locations.

Mr. Sajjanar appealed to motorists to avoid the restricted routes unless travel was necessary. He advised commuters to postpone their journeys or choose alternative roads instead.

The Commissioner also urged people not to enter congested areas unnecessarily. The restrictions and delays were linked to the continuing movement of idols, trucks and procession traffic around Hussain Sagar, where immersions were still under way on Saturday morning.
