HYDRAA removes encroachments from public land and protects Saki lake

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency has removed encroachments from 7,200 square yards of land reserved for public use in Kundanpally village of Medchal-Malkajgiri district. HYDRAA said the land was located in TPS Chamundipatnam Colony in Keesara mandal. The layout, formed in 1983, had earmarked 6,000 square yards for a park and 600 square yards at each of two locations for marketplaces.

According to the agency, attempts had been made to occupy the entire parcel by constructing precast walls and bringing the land under private control. Representatives of the Chamundipatnam Colony Cultural and Welfare Association raised the issue through HYDRAA’s Prajavani programme. Following the complaint, HYDRAA officials and municipal and revenue officials inspected the site.

They identified the parcels as land intended for public purposes and removed the encroachments on Tuesday. Officials installed signboards and fenced the land after clearing it. The action was intended to protect the spaces from further private occupation and preserve their designated public use.

In a separate operation, HYDRAA said it had taken steps to protect Saki lake in Patancheru, in Sangareddy district. The agency said encroachment was occurring along one side of the lake. According to a press note, truckloads of mud were being used to fill the lake’s full tank level.

HYDRAA acted on a request from irrigation officials and erected fencing along a one-kilometre stretch of the lake on Tuesday. The source material did not provide details of arrests, prosecutions or the identities of those responsible for the alleged encroachments. It said the two operations were carried out to safeguard public land and the lake from further occupation.
