India win three compound archery golds and secure Los Angeles quota

India won three compound archery gold medals at the Asian Games on Wednesday, defending its men’s and women’s team titles and securing a quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The women’s team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep defeated China 238-234 at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square. Their score equalled the world record set by South Korea at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.
Chikitha and Sahil Jadhav then beat Korea 158-157 after a shoot-off in the mixed-team final. The result secured India’s quota for the mixed-team compound event, which is scheduled to make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles. The Indian pair levelled the contest after Chikitha and Sahil hit the target with their final arrows.
In the shoot-off, both Indians hit 10s, while Korea’s Choi Eun Gyu scored a nine. India completed the day’s sweep when Sahil, Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru edged China 238-237 in the men’s team final. Sahil therefore finished the day with two gold medals.
India won all five compound events at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Although defending men’s individual champion Ojas Pravin Deotale was not selected for this edition and Jyothi exited the individual event before the quarterfinals, the team retained all three team titles. Chikitha and Ganesh Mani Ratnam are due to compete in the individual quarterfinals on Thursday.
India could complete another five-event sweep if its competitors win the remaining individual titles.
