India won five athletics medals on day eight of the 2026 Asian Games, while Anahat Singh became the first Indian woman to win a squash silver at the event. India ended the day with 37 medals overall but missed out on individual badminton medals.

India experienced mixed fortunes on day eight of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, winning five athletics medals while taking two squash silvers and exiting the individual badminton competition without a medal. Ancy Sojan won silver in the women’s long jump with a 6.53-metre effort. Sarvesh Kushare also took silver in the men’s high jump after clearing 2.25m.

Parul Chaudhary won bronze in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase in a national-record 9:08.67, while Tejaswin Shankar claimed bronze in the decathlon with 7,934 points. Harita Bhadra added bronze in the women’s 200m in 23.20 seconds. Anahat Singh lost the women’s squash final to Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam, 11-4, 11-4, 11-7, but became the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games silver in the sport.

Abhay Singh also won silver after losing the men’s final to Malaysia’s Ng Eain Yow. Anahat’s defeat meant she missed a quota place for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, where squash will make its Olympic debut. She said she had not played her best match but believed there were other routes to qualification.

India’s badminton campaign ended without an individual medal for the first time since 2014. PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda, Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand and Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto all lost in the quarter-finals. Sindhu criticised the scheduling after playing three singles matches within 24 hours.

India finished the day 12th in the medals table with four golds, 16 silvers and 17 bronzes.
