India defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the men’s cricket final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and received its gold medals from ICC chairman Jay Shah. The ceremony contrasted with India’s recent Asia Cup presentations, where the team did not accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi.

India retained the men’s cricket gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after defeating Pakistan by 19 runs on Saturday, with ICC chairman Jay Shah presenting the medals to the Indian team. India scored 211 for six, led by Abhishek Sharma’s 61 from 28 balls and an unbeaten 51 from Tilak Varma off 22 balls. Pakistan’s reply reached 192 for six, despite Hasan Nawaz scoring 96.

The medal presentation attracted attention because of India’s recent disputes over trophy ceremonies. India won the 2025 Asia Cup but did not receive the trophy at the presentation in Dubai after deciding not to accept it from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister and cricket board chairman. A similar situation followed the women’s Asia Cup final in September, when India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the board’s position had been communicated to the ACC before that final and described it as an institutional decision. At the Asian Games, the three medal-winning teams were presented with medals by different officials. Shah handed the gold medals to India, an Aichi-Nagoya organising committee official presented silver medals to Pakistan and Sri Lanka received bronze.

The final took place without a reported handshake between the Indian and Pakistani teams at the toss or after the match. The Pakistani players shook hands with the umpires before returning, while the teams did not interact after emerging from their dressing rooms. There was also an awkward moment during the group photograph, when Pakistan and Sri Lanka initially stepped down from the podium before later joining the Indian contingent.

Shah left after the photograph, while India completed its second successive Asian Games cricket title.
