The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation will launch mobile food vans at major tourist destinations, beginning with Hampi, Madikeri, Jog Falls, Mysuru, Nandi Hills and locations in Bengaluru. The service will offer meals, snacks and regional dishes, extending Mayura Hotels’ food operations beyond their premises.

The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation is to launch a mobile food service at major tourist destinations across the State. The initiative, called “Mayura Ruchi on Wheels”, will use food vans to take offerings from KSTDC’s Mayura Hotels closer to tourists at busy locations. Energy and Tourism Minister K.J.

George announced the plan in a statement issued on Saturday. The first phase will cover Hampi, Madikeri, Jog Falls, Mysuru, Nandi Hills and key tourist locations in Bengaluru. The vans are expected to serve breakfast items, snacks, meals and selected regional specialities from across Karnataka.

KSTDC currently operates 24 Mayura Hotels. The corporation said some are located away from the main tourist areas, making their food services less accessible to visitors. The mobile units are intended to address that gap.

Mr George said access to good food was part of the tourism experience. He said the scheme would promote Karnataka’s regional cuisine, create employment and generate additional revenue for KSTDC. KSTDC chairman M.

Srinivas said this was the corporation’s first mobile food-service initiative. He said preference would be given to local dishes, which could also create employment and business opportunities for communities near tourist sites. The announcement did not provide a launch date, the number of vans to be deployed or the prices and menus planned for the service.

It also did not specify whether the vans would be operated directly by KSTDC or through local partners. The corporation’s plan is therefore focused initially on bringing existing hospitality services to high-footfall locations rather than opening additional hotel premises. Further details about the rollout were not included in the source material.
