The long-pending Kotipalli-Narsapur railway project has received administrative sanction of ₹100 crore from the Andhra Pradesh government, with the State committing 25% of the total cost. Amalapuram MP G. Harish Balayogi said land acquisition would proceed and obstacles to a new alignment had been removed.

The Kotipalli-Narsapur railway project in Andhra Pradesh has received a fresh push after the State government sanctioned ₹100 crore to accelerate the work. The Department of Transport, Roads and Buildings issued Government Order RT 575 on October 1. Under the order, the State government has committed to contribute 25% of the project’s total cost.

The project is being executed by South Coast Railway. The development was discussed when representatives of the Konaseema Railway Sadhana Samithi met Amalapuram MP G. Harish Balayogi at his residence on Saturday.

The group appealed to the MP to expedite pending land acquisition in Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. KRSS convener E.R.

Subramanyam, MLC Kudupudi Suryanarayana and other members thanked Mr Balayogi for securing the administrative sanction. The organisation includes representatives of political parties, civil society groups, academics and lawyers and has pursued the railway line since its foundation stone was laid in 2001. Mr Balayogi said officials in the district had been instructed to proceed with land acquisition.

He also said obstacles affecting the project’s new alignment had been cleared. “The Kotipalli-Narsapur railway line project will be back on track with immediate effect,” he said, according to The Hindu. The MP had promised during the run-up to the 2024 general election to complete the line, which was conceived by his father, former Lok Sabha Speaker G.M.C.
