Kurnool minister calls for public role in keeping city clean
Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath Gupta has urged residents, students and voluntary organisations to support Kurnool’s cleanliness efforts. During a civic campaign, he joined municipal workers in sweeping roads and said waste segregation and public participation were essential to improving the city’s environment and service delivery.
Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath Gupta has urged residents of Kurnool to take responsibility for keeping the city clean, saying the task cannot be left only to sanitation workers. Mr.
Bharath made the appeal on Thursday while participating in the ‘Ek din - ek gantha - ek saath’ initiative with Kurnool Municipal Corporation Commissioner Challa Obulesu and municipal staff. The campaign was organised as part of Swacchtha hi Seva 2026. The Minister and civic workers swept roads at Sankalbagh, on the banks of the Tungabhadra River.
He also called on students and voluntary organisations to raise awareness among citizens about cleanliness. Mr. Obulesu said the corporation was taking several measures to keep Kurnool clean, but added that public participation was necessary.
He appealed to residents not to throw waste on streets and to separate dry and wet waste at source. The Commissioner also asked people to keep their surroundings clean and educate others about the importance of responsible waste disposal. Separately, Mr.
Bharath and Kurnool Collector A. Siri distributed pensions to beneficiaries in the Birlagadda area under the ‘Pedala Sevalo’ programme. The Minister said he was pleased that Kurnool Assembly constituency had secured eighth place in the State for positive public perception of government services.
He said Kurnool ranked first within the district and urged officials and elected representatives to coordinate more closely to improve its State ranking. Mr. Bharath said public feedback was being collected on whether pensions reached beneficiaries on time and whether recipients faced difficulties.
He said perceptions of government performance were shaped by people’s experience of the services they received.
