Lovlina Borgohain reaches second Asian Games boxing final

Lovlina Borgohain became the first Indian woman boxer to reach two Asian Games finals after defeating Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova in the women’s 75kg semi-final on Wednesday. The Indian won 3–2 on a split decision after overcoming a slow start against the reigning 70kg world champion. Lovlina lost the opening round 2–3 but increased her attacking intensity in the second and levelled the contest.
She remained composed in the final round, choosing her moments to counter as Bogdanova applied pressure. The Kazakh boxer landed a strong left hook, but Lovlina responded and limited her opponent’s clean scoring opportunities. The victory gives Lovlina another chance to win Asian Games gold after she took silver at Hangzhou in 2022.
She will contest the final on October 2. Priya Ghanghas won bronze on her Asian Games debut after losing 1–4 to China’s Yang Chengyu in the women’s 60kg semi-final. Kapil Pokhriyal also collected bronze after a 1–4 defeat by Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullaev.
India had already secured a bronze through super-heavyweight boxer Narender Berwal. The three medals won or confirmed on Wednesday took the country’s boxing total at the Games to six, improving on the one silver and three bronze medals won at Hangzhou. Lovlina is the third Indian boxer to reach a gold-medal bout at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, following Ankush Panghal in the men’s 80kg category and Parveen Hooda in the women’s 65kg category.
All three Indian finalists are scheduled to fight for gold on October 2.
