Missing Belagavi youth found dead after five-day search

A 27-year-old man from Belagavi who had been missing for five days was found dead near Nandgad Danti in Khanapur taluk, police said. The deceased was identified as Sarvesh Kangralakar, a resident of Marutigalli on Sambra Road in Belagavi. His family said he left home on the evening of September 20, telling them he was going to attend a public Ganesha festival celebration.

Sarvesh did not return, prompting his parents to lodge a missing-person complaint at Malamaruti police station. During the search, police also received information about an alleged incident on Mandoli Road in which a young man was assaulted and taken away in a car. Belagavi City Police Commissioner Prakash Nikam formed two teams to trace Sarvesh.

His body was found on Friday, September 25, near Nandgad Danti in Khanapur taluk while the search was continuing. Police are examining whether the reported incident on Mandoli Road was connected to Sarvesh’s disappearance and death. They said no allegation against any individual had been established so far.

A missing-person case has been registered at Malamaruti police station, while Belagavi Rural police station has registered a kidnapping case. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances in which the body was found and other information gathered during the search. The exact cause of death is expected to be determined after a postmortem examination and further investigation.

Police have not announced any arrests or identified suspects in the case. The investigation remains focused on establishing Sarvesh’s movements after he left home, the reported assault on Mandoli Road and how the body came to be found in Khanapur taluk.
