Police link woman and two Abuja hotel workers to body disposal

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has linked a woman and two workers at a Gwarimpa guest house to the disposal of a man’s body under Katampe Bridge in Abuja, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi said on Saturday. Sanusi said the body was found near the Kubwa Expressway at Katampe on August 26. The deceased had previously been reported missing by his family, while early media and public speculation connected the discovery with kidnapping and “one chance” robbery.

According to the commissioner, investigators established that the body belonged to the missing man and began examining the circumstances of his death. The missing mobile phone became a key lead in the investigation, although it had been switched off. Police traced the phone’s last known communication to Mrs Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2, Sanusi said.

Further inquiries allegedly showed that Muhammed, who is married, had been in a romantic relationship with the deceased and had saved his contact as “Safiyat”. Sanusi said the pair had lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House in Second Avenue, Gwarimpa. He alleged that Muhammed discovered the deceased was no longer breathing, took his phone and left without immediately reporting the incident to police.

Several hours later, after hotel management could not reach the occupants, staff entered the room and found the body, according to the commissioner. He identified the workers allegedly involved in moving it as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus. Sanusi said the two men transported the body to the Kubwa Expressway at Katampe and left it under the bridge.

He stressed that police had not established the exact cause or circumstances of death, and said further investigative procedures were under way. Anyone found responsible for the death or concealment and abandonment of the body would face the law, he said.
