Nellore MLA proposes four municipal seats for young candidates

Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy has announced plans to allocate four Nellore Municipal Corporation divisions to candidates aged between 21 and 35, as local-body elections approach. The proposal follows a series of meetings he held with college students over the past month under what he described as a “Gen Z Connect” initiative. During those meetings, he sought students’ views on public administration and their expectations of the current administration.

The Nellore Municipal Corporation has 72 divisions, 36 of which fall within the Nellore Rural constituency. The source material said this gives Reddy considerable influence over candidate selection in those divisions. Reddy said his discussions with young people had given him a different perspective on their views of politicians.

He also said the meetings had helped him understand how technology could be used to address long-standing public problems. Reddy’s proposal has not yet received formal approval from his party. He said he was confident of persuading the leadership that the approach could improve the party’s public appeal. The initiative comes as political parties identify candidates for local elections and seek to build support in their strongholds.
