Mamman Nami, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for governor of Niger State, has promised accountable management of public resources and an end to cash-sharing practices at the Government House. He also proposed registered, bank-based empowerment programmes and criticised alleged misuse of government premises.

The Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for governor of Niger State, Mamman Nami, has pledged to run a transparent and accountable government if elected. Nami, a former chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, made the promise while addressing party supporters and stakeholders during an appreciation visit after his emergence as the party’s candidate. He said his administration would not allow youths to gather at the Government House for money-sharing exercises, describing the practice as unsuitable for a modern government.

He also condemned alleged activities involving intoxicating substances at the premises and promised to protect the seat of government. Nami said public resources would be managed transparently. He promised not to divert state funds towards acquiring personal property within or outside Nigeria.

He also said empowerment programmes would be designed for the digital age rather than relying on indiscriminate cash distribution. Beneficiaries, he said, should be registered and their bank details captured to improve accountability in the distribution of support. The PDP candidate said he would not betray Niger State, drawing a comparison with his record as FIRS chairman under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

State PDP chairman Mohammed Hallidu said the party was prepared for the election. He said the PDP would campaign on what it described as shortcomings and challenges of the current administration and present Nami as an alternative. The source material does not give details of the election date or responses from the incumbent administration.
