The Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency has warned traders and business owners about organisations allegedly posing as Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission officials. The agency says payments demanded as registration fees or consumer-protection levies are unauthorised and should be reported to it or the police.

The Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency has warned traders and business owners against organisations allegedly impersonating officials of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission and collecting money across the state. The agency’s Executive Chairman, Oluyemi Fasipe, issued the warning in a statement posted on his X handle on Friday. He said reports had reached the agency that some non-governmental organisations were presenting themselves as FCCPC officials, demanding payments and sealing business premises.

According to Fasipe, the groups allegedly collected money under descriptions including “FCCPC registration” and “consumer protection levy”. He described the activities as unauthorised and said people found impersonating FCCPC or ODCCPA officials, or unlawfully collecting money in the agencies’ names, would be referred to law enforcement authorities. Fasipe said only duly authorised FCCPC officials with valid identification could conduct official activities on behalf of the federal commission.

He also explained that the FCCPC operates under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, while the ODCCPA is responsible for competition and consumer-protection matters in Ondo State under the state’s 2026 law. He directed the organisations allegedly involved to stop immediately, saying the state government would not tolerate impersonation, extortion, harassment or conduct that could disrupt legitimate businesses. The chairman urged supermarket owners, market leaders, traders and other residents to verify the authority of anyone demanding payment.

Complaints may be made to the ODCCPA or the nearest police station; Fasipe also provided 0706 287 7740 for direct reports. He said any legitimate joint enforcement operation by the two agencies would be coordinated with relevant authorities and announced through official channels.
