Nigerian troops rescue five abducted people in Katsina operation

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued five people, including a mother and her infant, after acting on intelligence about suspected terrorists near Madaci Forest in Katsina State, the Nigerian Army said. The military also reported repelling an attack in Sokoto and recovering rustled livestock abandoned by fleeing attackers.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued five abducted people, including a mother and her infant, during an operation near Madaci Forest in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State, the Nigerian Army said. The military said the operation followed intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists in the area. Troops moved to intercept the group, creating what the Army described as confusion in the attackers’ camp and enabling the rescue of the victims.
The rescued people included the mother and her infant, as well as three other minors and young adults from Danja and Funtua local government areas. The Army did not provide details about how long they had been held or identify the suspected abductors. According to the military, the victims were handed over to Bakori Local Government Chairman Abubakar Musa.
They were expected to be reunited with their families. The Army also reported a separate incident in Sokoto State. Troops of the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion repelled an attack in Badiya Village, Shagari Local Government Area, after receiving intelligence about suspicious movements.
The attackers retreated after troops engaged them, the military said. They left behind a large herd of rustled livestock, which was later returned to its owners at a ceremony organised with the Shagari local government chairman and the district head. The military said troops were continuing patrols in the affected areas to restrict the movement of criminals and support the restoration of normal life.
Its account of both operations was published in a post obtained from the Nigerian Army’s official X handle.
