NRM candidate Esther Okereke unveils campaign council and security pledge

Okereke made the promise on Tuesday while inaugurating the party’s Presidential Campaign Council. She described the event as the creation of a national “rescue team” rather than simply the launch of a campaign structure.
She said the NRM wanted to change the emphasis of political competition from the distribution of power to the distribution of prosperity. She also said the campaign would be based on organisation, evidence and peaceful participation rather than noise. “Why NRM?

The candidate said the party’s principles included legality, constitutionalism, accountability, transparency, unity, peaceful participation and the rule of law. She directed council members to follow an established chain of command and warned against unauthorised statements or parallel commands. The council is to operate from the national level through the six geopolitical zones, the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, local government areas, wards and polling units.
It has 30 national directorates. Prince Chinedu Obi is chairman of the council, with Okereke serving as co-chairman. Dr Mustapha Umar Kumshe is deputy chairman and Alhaji Sani Garba is director-general.
Obi, who is also the party’s national chairman, said the NRM was founded on the belief that stronger institutions, accountability and effective leadership could translate Nigeria’s human and natural resources into measurable improvements in citizens’ lives.
