OPay wins two consumer-voted fintech awards in Nigeria

OPay has received awards for Most Trusted FinTech Brand and Most Consumer Friendly/Innovative FinTech Brand at the 2026 Consumers Value Awards in Lagos. The company recorded 70.1 per cent and 70.2 per cent of valid votes respectively, according to the awards organisers, which said the results followed a nationwide public vote.
OPay has won two fintech categories at the fifth Consumers Value Awards, receiving recognition for consumer trust and innovation in Nigeria. The awards were presented at a ceremony in Ikeja, Lagos, on September 23, 2026. OPay was named Most Trusted Brand in the FinTech category and Most Consumer Friendly/Innovative FinTech Brand.
According to the Consumers Value Awards, OPay received 70.1 per cent of valid votes in the trust category and 70.2 per cent in the consumer-friendly and innovation category. The organisers said consumers nominate brands before shortlisted companies proceed to a public voting process. The awards therefore reflected the voting outcome rather than an assessment attributed to a regulator or independent financial audit.
The supplied material did not provide the names of other shortlisted brands or details of the total number of votes cast. OPay’s Head of Partnerships, Odiase Kolawole, said the recognition belonged to the company’s customers. He said their confidence placed an obligation on OPay to continue offering financial services that were simple, reliable and innovative.
Isimeme Owobu, the company’s Team Director for Key Account Merchants, Retail and FMCG, said the awards reinforced OPay’s stated focus on consumers and merchants. She said the company would continue to listen to users and improve its services. OPay said it has operated in Nigeria since 2018 and provides services including money transfers, bill payments, card services, airtime and data purchases, savings and merchant payments.
The company also said it is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, with the same insurance coverage as commercial banks. The recognition comes as OPay marks eight years of operations in Nigeria. The company said the awards demonstrated the importance of consumer confidence in judging the value of everyday financial services.
