Speakers at an entrepreneurship seminar in Palakkad advised aspiring business owners to start small, choose products with established demand and assess loans and partnerships carefully. The event also covered approvals, government schemes, subsidies and finance, with sessions aimed at jobseekers, students, women and other prospective entrepreneurs.

Aspiring entrepreneurs should begin with limited investment and focus on products that have a proven market, speakers told a seminar in Palakkad on Tuesday. The “my job, my business” event was organised by the Indo Gulf and Middle East Chamber of Commerce and the Kanjikode Industries Forum. It was aimed at jobseekers, students, non-resident Indians, women and others considering starting or expanding small businesses.

N.M. Sharafudeen, chairman of INMECC, said large businesses often had modest beginnings. T.S.

Chandran, a former deputy director of the Industries and Commerce department, advised participants to choose products with demand and begin with the smallest feasible investment. Chandran said profit should remain a central business objective. He also urged continuous innovation, diversification of products and expansion into wider markets.

He cautioned participants to examine loans and partnerships carefully and to take particular care when purchasing technology or machinery, especially used equipment. The source material does not provide specific examples of businesses or products recommended at the seminar. Sessions covered business opportunities, procedures for establishing enterprises, government approvals, Industries department schemes, subsidies, bank loans and other financial assistance.

A panel discussion included representatives from IIT Palakkad Techin, Cutie Group and Jayon Implants. District Industries Centre general manager Benedick William John inaugurated the seminar. INMECC Kerala chapter secretary Younus Ahamed said the organisation would follow up with participants and use its resources to support them.

The event was presented as a practical effort to connect prospective entrepreneurs with information on enterprise formation, employment opportunities and available institutional support.
