Plateau State University, Bokkos, has appointed Associate Professors Keziah Ayuba and Martha Niri Choji as deputy vice-chancellors for administration and academics. The university says it is the second Nigerian institution to have two female DVCs simultaneously and is preparing for accreditation of 11 programmes.

Plateau State University, Bokkos, has appointed two women as deputy vice-chancellors, the institution announced on Friday. Associate Professor Keziah Ayuba was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, while Associate Professor Martha Niri Choji became Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic. The appointments were approved at the university’s 106th Special Senate Meeting on September 29, 2026.

The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Shedrack Best. Ayuba was reappointed for a second two-year term after completing her first term. Choji was appointed for the first time, replacing Professor Pyefa Galadima, who served two terms as DVC Academic from 2022.

The university said the nominations were made by the vice-chancellor under the relevant provision of the University Law and were unanimously approved by Senate. According to the university’s public relations officer, Masara Kim, the appointments make Plateau State University the second Nigerian university to have two female deputy vice-chancellors at the same time, after the University of Ibadan achieved the distinction in November 2021. Choji has served as head of the Mathematics Department, head of the Remedial Science Programme and head of the Department of Statistics.

The vice-chancellor said the appointments reflected a commitment to equity, inclusion and merit. Best said the university had accreditation ahead for 11 programmes and was beginning a new academic session. Ayuba thanked Senate and the vice-chancellor for the opportunity and pledged to support the administration’s vision.
