Police investigate fatal shooting of influencer in Amritsar

Police have opened an investigation into the shooting of makeup artist and social-media influencer Mad Sandhu in Amritsar on Saturday, according to preliminary information. Sandhu was found lying seriously injured on a road after being shot. A video circulating on social media showed him in a blood-soaked condition as people gathered at the scene.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and was initially reported to be in critical condition. Social-media reports later claimed that he had died while being transported to hospital, but the available report said that information had not been independently confirmed at the time of writing. Police reached the location after receiving information about the shooting and began examining the circumstances.

Investigators are expected to review CCTV footage, gather other evidence and record statements from possible witnesses. The identity of the person or people involved had not been established. Police also had not determined the motive for the attack, according to the report.

Because the available information included conflicting accounts of Sandhu’s condition, the report did not establish a confirmed death beyond the preliminary description of a fatal shooting. It also did not provide details about the exact location, the weapon used or any arrests. The incident attracted attention because of Sandhu’s work as a makeup artist and his presence as an influencer on social media.

Further details about his condition, the circumstances leading to the shooting and those responsible were awaited as the investigation continued.
